Rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages dropped below 4 percent this week for the first time in history amid increasing global economic concerns,Freddie Mac said in releasing its Primary Mortgage Market Survey.

A separate survey by the Mortgage Bankers Association suggested many homeowners and would-be homeowners are unwilling or unable to take advantage of record low rates, with demand for refinancings and purchase loans both falling last week.

Inman news reports that we have now surpassed the lowest of the low.

Fannie Mae economists are projecting that mortgage rates will stay well below 5 percent through 2013,and that demand for purchase loans will more than double in the next two years.

Gilbert Arizona Follow the Steel – 911 Memorial

The town has acquired an eight foot long, 1,500 pound beam from the World Trade Center through the long time efforts of the Town Manager Collin DeWitt. With the 10-year remembrance approaching, a community committee has been formed to help raise funds to build a Gilbert 9/11 Memorial.

“This was a very solemn and respected operation,” DeWitt said. ”This is something children will be able to touch, something we plan to mount and have as a memorial for every September 11th; a place we can assemble every year to remember, and memorialize that sacrifice.”

*The steel beam will be displayed at the Gilbert’s NYPD Pizza location at Warner and Civic Center Drive” more

A Weighty Challenge – Gilbert vs Chandler. The winner: Our families.

Food Drive Challenge Brings out Gilbert, Chandler Spirit:

Gilbert vs Chandler Food DriveGilbert and Chandler are teaming up during the month of May for a challenge of a giving nature – seeking to collect the largest quantity of donations for local food banks. The goal is to collect the greatest weight of food donations by May 31, in a challenge that pits both residents and employees of the communities in fun contest that supports our neighbors who need us most.

The good cause will also build up community spirit between the two communities, which have worked closely on important projects including the Santan Vista Water Treatment Plant. The community that wins gets to see the opposing City or Town Council in their community wear their shirts through an entire televised public meeting.

“I know we’re going to see a lot of city and community pride on display in Chandler as these food donation boxes fill up,” said Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny. “It’s a great way for the whole community to be involved, and we’re looking forward to seeing the Gilbert Town Council wearing City of Chandler shirts!”

Gilbert Mayor John Lewis promised to be among the first to include donations to the food drive in his next family grocery trip.

“This is a chance for Gilbert to show why we are considered one of the best places to live in the country – it is our giving nature,” Lewis said. “We can’t wait, for instance, to give Chandler the chance to wear our Town of Gilbert shirts!”

Ultimately, everyone will come out winners, Lewis added, “as our local families enjoy wholesome food on their tables.”

A Weighty Challenge

The competition will be won by the greatest weight of donations. Every can counts in a competition with the goal of building community spirit, and helping out our neighbors. Gilbert donations will support United Food Bank, an organization that distributes wholesome foods to local food banks throughout our communities.

The need

The drive is a great opportunity to donate nutritious, nonperishable foods to local food banks. Good suggestions include canned vegetables, fruit and meat, soups, granola or nutrition bars, juice boxes, oatmeal, chile con carne, beef stew, kidney beans, refried beans, pinto beans, blackeyed peas, peanut butter, prunes and nuts.
